Melbourne Food festival 2010 Poster of cooks The current Melbourne wine and food festival is a culinary delight. BUT all the images of the cooks chefs and providores are European and Mediterranean. And I am just sure there are other cuisines and their creators who are very much part of the story. So why has the Melbourne event  employed marketers who don't care about diversity? Dozens of people but no apparent Asian, African or Indigenous Australian/South American/Maori faces in the crowds. Is this a subtle genuflection to the fear of curry-munching that has been bubbling away in Paris on the Yarra? Maybe with John So gone from the Town Hall the new regime want it to revert to the bad old days before David Wang brought the first Chinese city councillor to power 35 years ago? Check the images here. And all this at a time the multicultural driver in Melbourne, the Scanlon Foundation, has been pushing its A Taste of Harmony Day (21 March) to get people in workplaces all over Australia to have a big mixed cultural lunch to celebrate diversity and share culture. Pity no one told Melbourne.
