Description

Effective policy development requires a robust engagement process at its core. It is those policies designed through the incorporation of feedback from stakeholders and communities that are most effective and useable in practise.

But while the theory is simple, the practice of delivering effective engagement in policy development is proving much harder. Obstacles including uncertainty over the best techniques to use and a lack of cohesion between federal, state and local governments are resulting in an array of missed opportunities for policy makers, stakeholders and the community. The reformist nature of the Rudd Government also highlights the need to deliver effective and efficient policy outcomes.

This event will examine the process of policy development with a focus on community engagement. Key issues include the role of stakeholders and communities can play in policy making and why effective policy cannot be developed without engagement. The event will bring together those responsible for policy development at all levels of government.
